Your Calling to Minister to Children

Mark 16:15“And He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature’.

Matthew 28:19, 20

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the earth.  Amen”.

Our commission (command or instruction) as children’s ministers is to fulfil the great commission of the body of Christ to the children of the world.

Jesus’ heart is filled with love for children and He calls people who He can trust to teach them and to train them to follow in His footsteps.  Not all of us have the same calling.  There are diverse ministries and different callings and methods.  Even before the foundation of the world God already chose YOU to be a minister of the gospel to the children.

HOW TO KNOW WHETHER YOU HAVE BEEN CALLED TO WORK WITH CHILDREN?

  • The Holy Spirit stirs up a vision in your heart.
  • You will develop compassion for children.
  • You will desire to see them saved, filled with the Holy Spirit and walking in the fullness of His promises for their lives.

Teaching children takes time and effort.  It means consistency and repetition.  Sunday after Sunday, year after year, the children's leader equips the children to do the work of the ministry.  Only the called, anointed and properly equipped children's leader can do this.

It is an honour and privilege to be called and equipped by God to serve children.  He has called you to minister to Him through children.  As you begin to walk in His anointing, spiritual prosperity and blessing will abound towards you in all that you do.

If you don’t hear God’s voice for your future, look at the following aspects of your life:

  • Are you living the Word?
  • Do you tithe?
  • Is your prayer life what it should be?

When God calls you, you will not have to strive or do battle to get into ministry.  Keep a good positive attitude in all things.

Do not compare yourself with anyone else.  Be the best that you can be for Jesus.  You have gifts and talents which God wants to use in the area where He has placed you.  Do not settle for anything less than a supernatural ministry.  Only you can decide whether you have the courage to persevere against all the obstacles that you will face. When you enter the Children’s Ministry, remember that Jesus is the solution to every problem you face and NEVER, NEVER QUIT.

As a children's minister you minister to the most sensitive group of people in the church.  This requires you to be a solid person with a firm foundation and grounding in the Word of God, your life must be an example, you need to be prepared to sacrifice and go the second mile for the children.  You must be an enthusiastic person who has a positive attitude and who’s priorities are in place.  Remember, God does not only use the talented, above all He seeks the faithful heart, one who will serve with commitment and dedication.

John 21:15

“So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, ‘Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?’  He said to Him, ‘Yes, Lord; You know that I love You’.  He said to him, ‘Feed My lambs’” (NKJ).

Feeding the young of the flock is a high and significant calling.  It is an honour and privilege to help lay foundations in the hearts of children, to teach them Biblical, Godly principals that will affect their lives for eternity.

As a leader in Children’s Ministry we are helping to lay the foundation stones in children’s lives. These last for a lifetime.  We must ask ourselves “Will the children assigned to me live strong, unshakable lives as a result of the foundation I helped to lay?”
