Becoming Part of the Volunteers

There are 3 steps that you would need to know before you volunteer, they are

  • 1st  step is to complete your Application form
  • 2nd  step is to learn all you can
    • Be open and willing to learn as much as you can, search the web, Ask as many question you can to find our more. Be like a sponge. It is the best way to learn.
  • 3rd step is to step out in faith
    • Show yourself faithful and trustworthy.
    • Get involved in anything that needs to be done.
    • Learn all the different aspects of the ministry.
    • Be willing to be trained up and be willing to step out and be trained in puppetry, illusion, Story telling and much more.

To the New Volunteer/Helper

We all start on the helpers section, where we watch the teachers and team scurrying around the class, doing individual tasks, and we might just stand there, feeling insignificant. But it’s a vital part of the ministry to watch the kids and interact with them and to build relationships with the kids. You are in a position to speak into a child’s life, to encourage and uplift them.  If they let you into their circle of trust you can speak into their lives in a powerful way.

There is nothing more disheartening to any leader if there are a group or even one kid that continues to disrupt the class and be the “smart Alec”. We all have at least one in our midst who would rather teach the teachers than be taught by someone older. But hey we are called to teach the gospel to every creature, and we will even reach and teach the smart Alec's. God loves the imperfect us, and so we should love the imperfect Alec’s.

Reach out to them, you usually find that the kids that are disruptive and loud are the ones that need the attention and it’s their way of controlling the situation, as they cannot control their situation that has hurt them.

Reach out to them and include them in your ministry, try and find an area that you can use them in to collect offering or stamp the cards, they just want to be included and valued.

Be available to learn as much as you can. Remain teachable and open. The worst we can do to ourselves and our ministry, is to get stuck in our ways, and not open to new ideas and teaching methods.

The word of God never changes, it remains unchangeable, but methods of teaching can change, just look at the way our youngster are taught in school today compared to how we were taught.

Always look for fun ways of teaching the Gospel, but don’t compromise on the “Word” we always teach the Word of God in fun and don’t focus on the fun and leave out the word.

Learn the different methods of presenting Offerings, object lesson, Bible Lesson, Memory verse and Games (if time allows).

A helper is a vital part of the ministry, and not all helpers see their position as a vital part, as most of us want to be up there teaching, but every part is a vital part, and God has gifted us all individually, and specifically. Not everyone is called to teach, but not everyone is gifted to do Praise and Worship. Not everyone has the unique ability to gain a child’s trust that they are open to speaking into their lives, and especially those kids that have gone through a trauma. It takes a lot for them to trust anyone.  Ask God to show you those kids and reach out to them.  Some kids have gone through sexual incidents in their lives and so you going up to a kid and throwing you arm around them, could cause more damage than impact.

Our intentions are always to reach out with God’s love, but always ask a child if you can hug them, ask a child if they will give you permission to pray for them. Just be sensitive.

Restroom Duty

We all want to believe that there is NO wrong doing in our midst and especially at church, but the reality is that there are paedophiles out there. These kids see and go through such horrific stuff at school, home, with friends, parties etc that we never know.

We would be ignorant to ignore or make out that it does not exist.

We here at Super Kids have procedures set in place for toilet duties.  The environment is pretty safe and secure, but we also as teachers need to cover ourselves.

Never allow new people to take the kids to the toilet, especially kids under 6 years of age.  You as a teacher always make sure that there are two of you, to cover each other.

Never allow yourself to be accused of wrong doing or misconduct with the kids.  Always back yourself up with a child helper going with you to take a baby or toddler to the toilet.

Children over 6 years, should not need you to go into the toilet with them, they can help themselves.

Wait outside the toilet for them to come out.  If you are called into the bathroom for whatever reason, (a child might be vomiting),  if possible ask a helper or someone to go with you. This would not leave you open to be accused of misconduct. Cover yourself.

The final word

Learn so that you are ready in an out of season, be teachable to learn all the aspect of the ministry.  Even if you know it is not your gifted area of ministry, be open,  so if you are called upon to do so, God can use you in season and out of season.
